In the beginning.....

This is Tige......
This is me.......

If you can't tell by the pictures, we've just been married.  And since planning a wedding for a year and a half wasn't enough, we decided we'd buy a house....right.after.we.got.married.  I'm a first time homebuyer; Tige has owned a home before, but about 12 years ago.  And you'd think for two people who have worked in the real estate (I was an agent) and mortgage industry (Tige was a loan originator), we'd have a better idea about how painful/stressful/demoralizing this process is.....BUT, we are gluttons for punishment.

I'll spare you the details of house hunting (the fun part, that took no time at all), and move on to the details of the home we've purchased.  It's a cozy (the nice way to say very small), two bedroom, single family, 1980's home.  And when I say 1980's, I mean, it still looks exactly the same as when it was built in 1980.  Needless to say, it needs some upgrading....the fun part!  That was, until we started pricing things out and realized how expensive it is to actually make your home fit the 21st century.

The bones of the home are in really good condition (holla!), and we are those lucky home buyers that realized there was real hardwood under the carpet (double holla!)...but again, I'll spare you the long laundry list of things that need to be upgraded.  So after I sobbed a bit after seeing some of the price tags, I thought, "I've read all the DIY blogs, I watch HGTV, why can't I do it!?!"  Hmmm....mostly because it takes a little more then being a couch potato and watching HGTV to do this stuff.  Oh, and patience, which I don't have a lot of.  But, Tige pulled me up by my britches and said, "we're a team" (he actually said that....isn't that cute :), "we can do this!"  And, I believe him.....and here we are.  Newly married, somewhat first time homebuyers, and now DIY'ers.  So, journey with us through our mistakes, triumphs, bumps and bruises....we may all learn a few things!

P.S. Escrow doesn't close until the end of January 2012, so that's when the fun will begin!
